During Sunday Religious Growth and Learning children who have been attending are reminded of our overall theme this year of The Gifts of Our Faith. We start by talking about our theme of the month; October’s being The Gift of Heritage/Roots!
Then our focus of the Sunday is introduced. They take guesses what is in the gift box relating to our topic and then enjoy opening the Gift Box to view what is inside. I find most children are eager to share their thoughts in our discussion. I am amazed by their comments and shared experiences on each topic. Please remember to sign in your child each week at the welcome table so we know who will be in class each Sunday. Registration forms will be completed in October so that we have a better idea of the ages and number of children attending each Sunday. The RGL committee will hold a meeting on Sunday, October 8, 11:20am after the service. Anyone interested in RGL is welcome to attend; childcare will be available. Sunday, Oct. 1 - The Gifts of Staying Close to Our Roots Sunday, October 8 - The Gifts of Reclaiming Our Roots (Indigenous Peoples Day) Sunday, October 15 - The Gifts of Our LGBTQ+ Roots Sunday, October 22 - The Gifts of Being Rooted in Science and Reason Sunday, October 29 - The Gifts of Honoring and Grieving Our Roots (Samhain & Pagan Roots) _____________________ If you have any comments or questions, please contact me on Sundays after service, or my phone number is: 218-209-7155. - Susanne Rabel Welcome back to the new Fellowship year! I hope everyone had a great summer and are ready for a new beginning at HUUF. We held two activities for children this summer during the Circle Conversations the adults held in June and July. New friendships were made, and overall I think the children were happy seeing their HUUF friends. I am looking forward to hearing the children’s stories of their summer adventures when we begin meeting each Sunday this Fellowship year.
This year’s overall theme for RGL is The Gifts of Our Faith. We will focus on ten beloved UU values and explore their potential to shape us and, in turn, shape the world. September will begin with children exploring The Gifts of Welcome. Each Sunday includes an exploration of what it means to approach each other and life itself with the spirit of welcome. Classes for children will take place at 10am during the worship service. We start at the service and then leave for class after the Story For All Ages. Childcare for children not attending RGL during the service will be available in the Childcare Room from 9:50am to 11:15am. Please sign in your child/ren each Sunday at the Welcome table or Childcare Room. The RGL committee will have their first meeting later in September after we have a better idea of RGL attendance for this year. If you have any comments or questions, please contact me on Sundays after service, or my phone number is 218-209-7155. Susanne Rabel We are looking for someone to assist with watering the gardens at the Peace Center on the following Saturdays in September: 9th, 16th, and 23rd. Please contact Brent at 218-308-4698 if you can assist!
HUUF members Paul Kivi and Tricia Andrews have reserved the Elk Lake Group Campsite @ Itasca State Park from 4 pm on Friday, September 22nd to 4pm on Sunday, September 24th. Paul and Tricia invite all HUUF members and friends to camp or just stop by (the site is just off the fabulous Wilderness Drive).
Details: This group camp offers RV and tent camping (accommodating up to 50 people) in a rustic setting with a cold water hand pump, no electricity and a small shelter. Firewood is provided at the site with a small fee upon check-in. The site features Picnic tables and fire rings with vault toilets; showers are available in the campgrounds. State park sticker is required on vehicles. Tricia will have her ukulele and Paul will have his voice and music will be shared around the campfire. Bring your instruments! Questions or to RSVP email Paul Kivi at [email protected] (RSVP is nice but not required). Come join us at what should be close to the peak of fall colors! PS: Can't come for the whole weekend? A potluck on Sunday at 12:30 pm would be an especially nice time to visit after Fellowship! The Pride Festival co-committee chairs (Ruth Baker and Minna Furfaro) organized a wonderful booth to represent HUUF this year with a crafts table (well attended) and our sales of T-shirts and Pride Flags. We were joined by a MUUSJA member, Rev. Leslie Mills, who brought a powerful energy, and several HUUF members who graciously gave their time to help greet PRIDE folks with their love, energy, and smiles. We have 19 t-shirts and 6 PRIDE flags left. They will be available for purchase at our social justice area at the Peace Center.
Next Highway Cleanup is Oct 7, 2023 at 10:00 am
Our highway clean up team could use some more volunteers. We meet to clean up our section of Highway 2 twice a year, fall and spring. With just six of us we get the job done in an hour or two however, if we could get some additional volunteers, we could finish the job more quickly and create a more impressive presence on the highway as we work. It is not difficult work and it doesn’t need to include much walking or lifting. Our sign on Highway 2 boasts the fact that HUUF is out in the community doing good work. How about if we show them in numbers how we make ourselves helpful? If you’d be willing to pitch in and help on October 7th please get in touch with: Paul Kivi [email protected] Fred Forseman [email protected] |
